Latin America

Becker Glynn’s Latin America practice has been integral to the Firm since its founding, with a deep network of relationships that span generations.

The Firm’s Latin America practice focuses on:

Development Finance

Our corporate team regularly advises development finance institutions, including International Finance Corporation (the private sector financing arm of the World Bank Group), Inter-American Development Bank, and Inter-American Investment Corporation, as well as a number of bilateral development banks. Projects include debt and equity investments, typically under New York law governed documentation, and require close collaboration with counsel throughout the region on issues arising under the law of the local jurisdiction where the key parties and projects are located.

Private Client

Becker Glynn’s lawyers regularly act as general counsel to high net worth families from Latin America. Representation of family offices and their investment arms make up an important part of this work. Our assistance ranges from tax and succession planning (trusts and estates), investment in real estate and other assets, business transactions and dispute resolution. At the core of our private client practice is a decades-long commitment to understanding the personal circumstances and unique situation of each of our clients and their families.

Corporate and Transactional

We regularly advise corporate clients based in Latin America on M&A and joint venture transactions where the target or center of activity is in Latin America or the U.S. Such transactions often involve New York law governed documentation or U.S. legal entities. We also provide similar advice to U.S. and European corporate clients investing into Latin American jurisdictions. And we support our Latin American clients on a variety of regular trade and commercial matters involving the U.S. or U.S. law governed documentation and structures. Our work in this area often relates to companies affiliated with our Latin American private clients.

A number of Becker Glynn lawyers are native or fluent Spanish and Portuguese speakers, including lawyers who were educated in Latin America before moving to the U.S.
