Asia
The Firm has a long history assisting clients with their activities in Asia and assisting Asia-based clients with their U.S. business and investment activities. The work encompasses most substantive areas of the Firm’s practice.
In connection with its finance practice, the Firm represents lenders and investors in projects across the region, including in Korea (especially in the financial sector immediately following the Asian financial crisis), Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nauru, Pakistan, Philippines, Samoa, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Our regular work also includes implementing joint venture companies; arranging supply, distribution, and other agreements with local manufacturers in Asia; and purchasing and selling subsidiaries or their assets. Here in the U.S., we regularly assist clients with the purchase and sale of U.S.-based subsidiaries, prepare commercial contracts of wide variety, manage U.S. regulatory matters, and litigate commercial disputes, which have recently included representations of a publicly traded Taiwanese semiconductor company in a federal lawsuit and Asian-based banks caught up in large bankruptcy-related proceedings. Arbitration and mediation for Asia-based clients is also an important part of the Firm’s portfolio.
Finally, the Firm’s private client practice provides representation to individuals and families from the Asia region.
