Becker Glynn Successfully Counsels Clients through Decade-Long Litigation
After a failed leveraged buyout resulted in a 2008 bankruptcy for the Tribune Company, the company’s estate and dozens of creditors commenced lawsuits against the company’s former shareholders – including many clients of the Firm. The lawsuits asserted novel claims that the funds received by the shareholders in the leveraged buyouts were fraudulent and must be returned. Firm litigators Zeb Landsman and Jordan Stern teamed up with Firm bankruptcy partner Alec Ostrow to guide the Firm’s clients through these multiple litigations, which took nearly a decade and went to the US Supreme Court twice. The Firm’s clients were successful in the US Supreme Court, which twice denied applications for certiorari, leading to a final dismissal of all claims.
